Along Faulkner Park/Mountain Avenue
What’s Going On?
During 2024, the Department of Public Works put time and material into addressing the recurring puddles along the park boundary by adding material while maintaining necessary slope.
The summer of 2025 was very dry, but initial observations show great improvement. Thank you Woodstock DPW!
Old trash cans have been removed.
Fall/Winter 2025: Carry In and Carry Out
Both the Mutt Mitt and full size trash cans have been removed, along with the poop bags, to further mitigate the misuse of trash receptacles and the related bear activity.
This next step, proposed by the municipal manager, is applying a “carry in, carry out” philosophy in Faulkner Park and on the Trail. Community feedback is welcome; Friends of Faulkner Park is collecting remarks and observations.
(In November of 2024, FOFP-VT collaborated with the Municipal Manager and Department of Public Works to try to mitigate the issues that the two large trash cans were creating in the park: frequent dumping of cans by the local foraging bear, misuse of cans for household trash, and erosion caused by large trucks accessing the cans for pick up.
It was agreed to try the following approach: that the Town would remove the two large trash receptacles, and FOFP-VT would provide two Mutt Mitt Dog Poop Bag Trash Cans to be mounted on the same pole as the bag dispensers. DPW will be responsible for the emptying of the full cans, and the replacement of trash the bags, along with the already provided service of restocking fresh Mutt Mitt bags.
This approach will be reassessed in the summer of 2025.)
Mutt Mitt receptacles and bags have been removed.
